When I went to Montana a couple of summers ago, I took some of my fabric, Sewing Studio, for my bestie Bea to play with. Little did I know that she was gonna design an entire quilt and pattern while I was there, and we want to offer the pattern to you for free, ‘cuz you know, that’s what friends are for!
I’ve posted this before but since my old site is now gonezo, my old post went with it so I wanted to share it again with you.
I just made another quilt using the pattern using fabrics from Bea this time, some vintage (90’s-ish) barkcloth from my most excellent quilty buddy Cathy, plus some of my vintage and new stash for a vintage modern mashup.
The pattern is super simple, we give you each block broken down into pieces, just cut each piece and sew, easy!
I quilted this one using an acid green cotton thread and a freemotion retro style boomerang design.
Isn’t that barkcloth fab? I happen to know from the selvedge that it was made by my fabric peeps at Robert Kaufman, back in the 90’s-ish I am guessing. I mixed in a ton of other fabrics, some I got at the thrift store, some of my newer Spoonflower’d designs, some from Montana, and some I’d had kicking around in my stash for a while. The binding is a cute daisy print, a thrifted treasure.
The quilt measures 45″ x 60″ when you’re all done. You could easily make it bigger by adding more blocks or smaller by taking some away.
On the back I used a vintage sheet that I found at the thrift, it was in pretty pristine condition, I don’t think it was ever used. And yes! I do wash them, in HOT, before I use them, so there are absolutely no thrifted cooties! (I have never had any problems with that ever, just fyi if you’re skeeved out by used sheets, and I just consider them as fabric).
And that’s the quilt! It sews up well in pretty much any mix of fabrics, the scrappier the better!
Here is a link to the pattern if you make one, we’d love to see it!
